Fresh Red Eggplant of Rotonda PDO is grown around Rotonda in Basilicata, within Pollino National Park. Its distinctive orange-red colour and African botanical origins set it apart from common eggplant varieties. PDO status certifies its protected geographical origin.

A Distinctive Appearance and Flavour

Small and rounded, this eggplant has seed-rich flesh and a slightly bitter taste. Its characteristic red colour develops through the presence of carotenoids as the fruit ripens.

Ideal for Traditional Lucanian Recipes

Grill it and season with extra virgin olive oil, garlic and oregano, or preserve it in oil for traditional recipes.
