Description

Sarconi PGI Regina Beans from Basilicata

Regina beans are one of the most representative varieties of Sarconi PGI Beans, a gastronomic speciality of Basilicata recognised for the exceptional quality of its legumes. Also known as Ciuoto, they are among the most widespread and appreciated local bean varieties. According to tradition, the name may come from a queen's fondness for these beans during the Bourbon period; another explanation links it to their popularity and versatility in Lucanian country cooking.

A Traditional Lucanian Variety with an Exceptionally Thin Skin

Sarconi PGI Regina beans are recognisable by their oval shape, white background with wine-red mottling, and remarkably thin skin, which becomes almost imperceptible after cooking. Grown in the distinctive microclimate of the Sinni Valley, where temperatures vary considerably between day and night, they develop a delicate flavour and creamy texture that make them one of the most appreciated varieties in Lucanian culinary tradition.

Perfect for Pasta e Fagioli and Traditional Dishes

Regina beans are ideal for classic pasta e fagioli, soups, hearty stews and Mediterranean recipes. Their thin skin and tender texture after cooking also make them excellent for creamy bean purées and vegetable or legume side dishes. A historic variety of Sarconi PGI Beans that brings the authentic taste of Basilicata to the table.
